Washington International Horse Show: Watching Ice Melt

Watching Ice Melt....
It is hard to believe that our 1-year anniversary is upon us, however time really does fly! As with any new (ad)venture we have had some big wins, a few headaches and a growing list of lessons learned. The GV team is so appreciative of our clients and vendor partners for giving the "new kids" the opportunity to showcase our work.

We close out this year at the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) where we supported event logistics for their six-day event. Started in 1958, WIHS is one of the country's leading indoor horse shows. Set in downtown Washington DC at the Verizon Center, visitors enjoy seeing the horses stabled on the streets, meeting Olympic veterans and watching national hunter-jumper champions perform. Some fun factoids include:

  • The show has a $10.1 million impact on the city of Washington D.C.

  • It takes 6 hours to melt the ice from the hockey rink before installing the horse show ring

  • 1200 tons of footing is used between the show and warm-up rings

  • 1.8 tons of shavings are used to bed 360 stalls

  • 63 boxes of Georgetown Cupcakes are given out to class winners

Finishing Touches....
We loved putting together a modern themed baby shower for a client in Aiken, SC. This co-ed cocktail party featured accents of blush, to celebrate the impending arrival of a baby girl and was offset with bold copper accents. We filled the gold and copper mercury vases with Sweet Peas from a local florist, and large urns with a combination of varying pink-toned Ranunculus and Tulips. Although not traditionally what you might expect, the copper and pink tones worked beautifully together, and gave the party that modern, yet warm, feel we were going for. The hit of the party was the specialty lemonade & cranberry cocktail that could be served with our without alcohol - in mason jars.
