The First Tee of Aiken: It's More Than a Game

"It's More Than a Game"
Until recently, we were not familiar with The First Tee, a national nonprofit with 150 chapters across the United States that provides after-school golf and life skill programs. Started in 1997 as a partnership among the LPGA, the Masters tournament, the PGA tour and USGA, The First Tee's intention was not just to teach golf but to have a positive impact on the lives of young people by providing learning opportunities and educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

The First Tee has established 9 Core Values that they believe represent the many inherently positive values connected with the game of golf: Courtesy ~ Judgment ~ Respect ~ Confidence ~ Honesty Integrity ~ Responsibility ~ Perseverance ~ Sportsmanship

Since 2016, we have engaged with The First Tee of Aiken, SC to produce their annual fundraiser Bridles & Birdies, raising money to support over 17,000 kids that take part in their program. In addition, The First Tee of Aiken is one of the few chapters conducting a pilot for The Els for Autism Foundation, Founded by Ernie Els, #GameOn Golf is a program for youth and young adults with special needs.

Finishing Touches....
We always enjoy collaborating with Bruce's Catering when planning an event. Their inventive, diverse menus and specialty cocktails are the cornerstone of any party and we appreciate their professionalism and humor during the event planning process. Anthony Smith, Director of Catering highlights a few things to look for when selecting a caterer:

  • Research the types of events the prospective caterers specialize in. Do they focus on certain types of cuisine, or can they do it all?

  • Can they handle a party as large (or as small) as yours?

  • Can they create custom menus?

Most importantly, prospective clients should be engaging with a caterer who is friendly, knowledgable and patient. It should be someone they want to collaborate with; after all, they will be developing a relationship with them in the weeks, months, or even a year before the event!
