A South Carolina State of Mind
Our Home Away From Home: The Palmetto State
Just three years ago, my horse world and business world collided in South Carolina. Since then, the GV team has had a handful of projects and events we have collaborated on with a passionate and fun group of clients. One of them, Jack and Lisa Towell, have recently converted their family farm Pleasant Oaks Plantation, located in Liberty Hill, SC into an event venue. With it's century old Oak trees, panoramic vistas and a historical church at the end of the street, this venue is an oasis for any event.
Some interesting historical facts about South Carolina include:
General Sherman's Federal army of 30,000 soldiers crossed at the ferry in Liberty Hill on their way to Camden and Cheraw
The state motto, "Dum Spiro, Spero", translates to "While I breath, I hope"
On April 12, 1861, the Civil War began at Fort Sumter in South Carolina where Confederate soldiers opened fire on the Union soldiers guarding the sea fort. The conflict has been called the "bloodiest four years in American history". The fort is now a national monument and tourist destination.
There are more peaches produced in South Carolina than in Georgia,the offical Peach State
A Little Rain Never Hurt Anyone...
One of our favorite events to produce each year, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History's Mission Creek Soiree, ran into some last minute rain challenges that precluded the event from being held outside. Instead, it became a progressive dinner party throughout their recently remodeled galleries. Par for the course, our client and vendors didn't break a sweat with these last minute changes and pulled off an amazing party!
